CP Electronics has supplied its Vitesse Modular marshalling boxes and a range of detectors to the newly refurbished Lancashire Cricket Club, situated at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. The multi-million pound renovation project has transformed the historic venue into one of the country’s top premier sporting destinations.
Specified by electrical contractors Genlec of Leigh, Lancashire, Vitesse Modular was used in the pavilion, the training centre and the media building. Combined with CP’s detectors in most of the areas, the scheme offers an extremely efficient lighting control system in terms of both performance and energy.
The refurbishment of the Emirates Old Trafford site includes ‘The Point’, a purpose built hospitality suite, the new pavilion which can accommodate up to 700 delegates in eight suites and nine executive boxes, and the new media centre and educational/ training facilities for the club and local community.
Vitesse Modular was the preferred choice as the system offers a quick and easy way to add luminaires to a lighting system by plugging in 4-way extender modules. Each module is able to connect to four luminaires, using either 6-pole dimming or 4-pole non-dimming GST connectors as well as up to three additional extension modules that can be added to accommodate a maximum of 16 luminaires. The easy plug and play system of the Vitesse Modular allows for easy change should the design layout change at fit out or if the space layout is altered at a later date.
Following the project brief, absence/presence detection was required in specific areas of the site where Genlec chose to use a variety of CP’s detectors that could easily be plugged into the end module of the Vitesse Modular system, using a pre-wired lead. These included CP’s EBDSPIR-PRM, a compact, self contained passive infrared detector and the VITM4-MW3SA detector with an adjustable head. The VITM4-MWS3SA incorporates a locking mechanism to prevent tampering and the detection pattern can simply be changed to suit the application, whilst an integral sensitivity adjustment allows the detector to be fine tuned to its environment. The detector is self contained and can be flush or surface mounted using a separate detector back box.
Speaking after the installation, Colin Burgess of Genlec commented, “We are very familiar with the whole CP range and have previously used their products as stand alone, finding them to be good quality and easy to use. After assessment of a variety of products, we found that they were very suitable in terms of pricing and quality and for use on an addressable project such as Old Trafford – they suited the installation perfectly.”
