Facilities management provider EMCOR Group (UK) has completed a new data centre for Woking Borough Council.
The data centre accommodates the council’s ICT services and also provides additional capacity, enabling the council to lease rack space to local businesses to house their IT systems.
EMCOR UK was responsible for the energy efficient design, build and fit out of the scalable data centre. Scope of work included installation of fire detection and suppression systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), cooling systems and leak prevention system, access control, CCTV, and also dark fibre links between the new data centre and the council’s civic offices.
Energy efficiency and the capacity to accommodate future growth were key requirements of the council. EMCOR UK’s design incorporated a number of energy saving features such as the installation of ‘in row’ door coolers, which cool only the units in use, thereby eliminating the need for costly ‘whole room’ air conditioning units, and maximises usable floor area.
Additionally, to meet the council’s growth plans, EMCOR UK’s modular solution is scalable and has the ability to expand from the current ten data cabinets to a future capacity of up to 29 racks. The modular approach also means that Woking Borough Council can easily and accurately calculate costs per cabinet associated with leasing units.
