This month invited delegates will gather to attend an energy seminar that will assist businesses in understanding the new compliancy rules of ESOS and potential risks involved in non-compliance.

The seminar, hosted by EIC – which is part of Utilitywise one of the UK’s leading business energy and water consultancies – will take place at Aston University in Birmingham on Wednesday 24th September.

Over 70 delegates will gather at the university to hear from leading figures in the energy and utilities sector including the Environment Agency, Senior Carbon Consultants and Energy Solution Managers from EIC and Utilitywise. The seminar will also include a keynote address from Lord Redesdale.

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory scheme in the UK and will introduce regular energy audits that will highlight energy savings for large organisations; the deadline for determining qualification for the scheme is 31st December 2014 with the deadline for the first compliance period falling almost a year later on 5th December 2015.

Delegates attending will find out how ESOS audits, ISO 50001, Green Deal assessments and Display Energy Certificates can all play a part in compliance with the new regulations, as well as understanding the legislation surrounding ESOS.

Tim Hipperson, head of supplier relations and regulations at Utilitywise, said: “ESOS presents a changing landscape for energy and utilities, that large organisations will have to understand, prepare for and comply with. We are keen to help the companies we work with to understand the necessary regulation and find manageable ways forward with their energy management, usage and reporting. Most of all, we are keen these companies don’t fall victims of penalties if they do not have the relevant processes in place.”

The overarching aim of the scheme to reduce EU energy consumption by 20% by 2020, with estimates indicating that approximately £1.7bn of net benefits to the UK.
