LuxLive 2018 is just around the corner. Now in its 8th year, the annual lighting event has already seen a 52 per cent increase in registrations this year and is on course to have its biggest attendance ever. It all takes place at ExCeL London on 14th and 15th November.

Building on its success from last year, the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) returns to LuxLive with the LIA LIVE Zone.

The LIA LIVE brings together the LIA’s key offerings in one purpose-built area which features a demonstration of its Laboratory services and equipment along with the LIA Lighting Academy providing exciting free educational programme delivered by key lighting professionals.

The Lighting Academy will also feature key findings from the LIA’s ongoing initiative of Market Surveillance and explore considerations for ensuring compliant products to be sold in the UK.

Commenting on the importance of LuxLive to the association, LIA CEO, Steve Davies said: “The LIA has continued to work tirelessly over the past year to strengthen and build on our portfolio of services to support member expectations and the wider lighting communities. LuxLive is the perfect environment to bring them all together and showcase to the industry what we are doing. The exhibition also gives us a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.”

The LIA Live Zone will have the precision equipment from the LIA Laboratory to demonstrate testing procedures and the range of application engineering and luminaire performance services, as well as complete laboratory photometry services. The Laboratory technicians will be there to answer any testing and certification questions. Visitors can also take a VR tour of the state-of-the-art facilities.

New this year, the LIA Laboratory will be doing live light measurement demonstrations using the latest technology that it is introducing – the LabSpion Goniometer by Viso Systems. The LabSpion technology offers an easy to use solution for light measurement of any type of lighting fixture, from small spots, LED panels to large street fixtures, without the need for a dark room, and in less than 2 minutes.

The LIA Laboratory is also offering the delegates free private light measurement testing and consultation using the LabSpion Goniometer on a lamp of their choice. Interested parties should contact Rich Green for more information on 01952 290907 or email him at lab@thelia.org.uk.

The LIA LIVE will also be supported by various LIA partners including, Kinnell Corporate explaining the LIA Insurance services, the MPA Group discussing R&D Tax Credit opportunities, and the global safety science organisation, UL informing the Certification for UK lighting.

The LIA’s WEEE compliance scheme, Lumicom will be located at one of the Pods in the zone to explain the recycling obligations for lighting manufacturers and demystify ‘Open Scope’ that comes into force on 1st January 2019.

Supporting the exhibition organiser’s ambitions for LuxLive to provide the most extensive educational programme the industry has ever seen, the LIA Lighting Academy returns with its free educational seminars covering the key contemporary topics in lighting.

Working with the Energy Saving Trust’s Premium Pro Light project, the morning sessions will offer a unique opportunity to understand how to get the most from today’s lighting by looking at the design, identifying the right product and the possibilities of controls.

Complementing the morning programme, the afternoon sessions will delve into the standards and legislation required to ensure product compliance, moving on to competence by exploring specification and installation. The results from the LIA’s industry-wide Market Surveillance scheme will also be presented, concluding in a healthy debate on compliance and competence.

Speaking about LIA’s participation at LuxLive, Ray Molony, Content Director at LuxLive, said: “I’m really excited for LuxLive this year as I believe we’ve got our best ever line-up of speakers. Big brands such as WeWork, British Land, CBRE, Bluetooth, Tesco and Sainsbury’s are all participating this year and there are no fewer than eight conference tracks, so hopefully, there’s something for everyone.

“LuxLive is already building into another great event this year, bringing all sectors of the industry together, with the LIA LIVE as a cornerstone.”
