Intertek has recently opened its new hazardous area competency validation centre in Grangemouth, Scotland.
Scotland has long been a strategic location for the oil and gas sector with many of the worlds leading energy brands operating out of the region. The CompEx facility, which is currently Scotland’s only centre offering CompEx units Ex12 ‘Application Design Engineers’ and Ex11 Mechanical.
Talban Sohi, director of Intertek’s UK operations said, “ We are pleased to open this new competency validation centre in the heart of the oil and gas community, which joins Intertek’s facilities in our global network across more than 100 countries. Ensuring staff competency in hazardous locations is key to our clients reducing risk and protecting the integrity of their facilities and operations - and staff competency validation through CompEx provides the highest possible level of confidence.”
Complimenting their existing CompEx centre in Chester, the Grangemouth facility will offer a full suite of CompEx courses including Ex12 - Design and Project Engineers; Ex11 - Mechanical, Ex07 - Ex08 Fuel (plus Refreshers); Ex05 - Ex06 Dust; Ex01 - Ex04 Gas & Vapours (plus Refreshers) and ExF; the CompEx foundation assessment.
The CompEx scheme provides both classroom-based and practical education and competency validation for engineers and staff working in potentially explosive environments. In these locations, being aware of ignition hazards and understanding the risks that these present to equipment, can prevent fire, explosion and the environmental devastation that these can cause.
Intertek is a ATEX Notified Body licensed to be a CompEx centre, and the addition of the Grangemouth location makes it the largest CompEx validation facility in the UK.
