Timeguard has made  high-quality, more-sensitive presence detection affordable for most users, with the added reassurance that its PIR range is fit for purpose as the migration to LED lighting continues and switches has to deal with start-up spikes.

Motion sensors, the PIR detectors that we are all most familiar with, respond to walking movements whereas the more sophisticated presence detectors, can sense fine movements that a conventional PIR would not pick up, such as people sitting at a desk, talking on a phone or using a keyboard where conventional detectors would lead to nuisance switching off. Presence detectors  are, of course, significantly more expensive.

Best of both worlds

The big leap forward in bringing the advantages of presence detection into the mainstream was the launch of Timeguard’s enhanced presence detectors which offer sensitive presence detection over a core 360o field of 3m, with conventional motion detection for the rest of their 10m detection field (based on a typical ceiling height of 3m). This approach offers the optimum balance between component price and performance, ensuring the lights stay on for office workers sitting at desks, and that if the area has been vacated, they switch on again as soon as someone walks into the area.

The range includes flush and surface mount ceiling detectors as well as wall-mounted versions. All can be adjusted for time on and lux level, and with ratings of up to 2000W can be used to control a number of lights in parallel.
