Providing power to UK data centres

Mar 21, 2012 | UPS & Standby Power

Sentrum, a data centre solutions specialist, has selected UPS solutions from Eaton’s Power Quality division as the secure power source for critical applications in its principal UK data centres.

A total of 137 Eaton UPS systems are currently installed within Sentrum’s portfolio of data centres and some idea of the scale of these installations can be gained by noting that, between them, they use 25,000 batteries with a total weight in excess of 830 tonnes.

“Sentrum is constantly striving to maximise energy efficiencies within its operations, whilst also ensuring delivery of an outstandingly reliable service,” said Franek Sodzawiczny, chief development officer and co-founder at Sentrum (pictured). “The high efficiencies and proven reliability of the UPS system from Eaton caught our attention in particular.”

The majority of the Eaton UPS systems in use at Sentrum’s data centres are from the Powerware 9395 range which has been designed specifically to support applications that demand the highest levels of protection against power failure.

The Powerware 9395 UPS features a dual conversion design with inherent redundancy, making it well suited for use across critical 24/7 applications. By operating at greater than 94% efficiency, it generates less heat and creates cooler operating conditions. This translates to reduced facility air conditioning requirements, whilst also extending the life of UPS components and batteries.
