The research and development team at ABB PMA are dedicated to ensuring the company remains at the forefront of the cable protection industry; setting new standards and beginning new trends that others may follow.

Its wish is to continue to be the global leading brand in cable protection solutions, and to produce the highest quality, most reliable, and respected products available – standing at the edge of modern technology. This is why ABB PMA has now invested in a brand new, state-of-the-art 3D Scanner.

This new piece of equipment, the GOM ATOS 3D Optical Scanner, will speed up the development process, whilst ensuring the company’s products are ideally suited to the situations and environments they face, such as; hazardous areas or extreme weather conditions.

By digitising real-life objects, PMA can further understand its geometric dimensions; how they are built, how they fit together with other objects, and how they react under certain pressures.

3D Optical Scanning is particularly integral to such areas as:

  • Part and tool optimisation
  • Tooling maintenance support
  • Part qualification – including support of first article inspections
  • Supplier part reference measurements
  • Part re-engineering
  • Quality inspection of parts with critical dimensions and tolerances
  • Complaint management support with geometric analysis

This process is particularly important for quality control purposes, as ABB PMA is now able to accurately and closely observe how its products wear, react, and fit together – continuing to create the safest and most secure cable protection solutions available.
