Solutions for UK’s greenest building

Cable management solutions from Ackermann have been selected for the development of Brent Civic Centre, a large public services building that forms part of the Wembley area regeneration.

The new community complex has been awarded BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and is officially the greenest public building in the UK. Over the next few months, an Ackermann Interact Underfloor Power track system, as well as Cablelink floorboxes, DeskPods and Grommets will be installed throughout the whole centre to create an end to end cable management solution.

Daletech site project manager Steve Gibson, the electrical contractor overseeing the development, said, “The focus of this project is to modernise council services in an environmentally-friendly way, with sustainability being a key element in the design and construction. The appeal of Ackermann was that their solutions not only allowed for cables to be as discreet as possible from a visual perspective, but also helped us meet our sustainability targets.”

The raised floors in the centre are being used as a plenum for heating purposes, therefore all items within the floor (including the floorboxes and grommets) had to be designed for minimum escape of air. “Using Ackermann we are able to implement a flexible and cost effective solution with a strong seal that minimises air flow,” said Gibson.

Modernising and centralising these council services is estimated to save approximately £2.5m per year, due in part to the significant energy savings predicted.
