Schroff has launched a new air/water heat exchanger capable of removing up to 40kW of waste heat per cabinet, enabling increased server density of high performance blades without the risk of local hot spots or high overall ambient temperatures developing.

The side mounted Varistar LHX40 fits to the left or right side of any 42U high 1,200mm deep cabinet. At only 200mm wide, it will fit comfortably into a standard 800mm wide enclosure, enabling full width 19” front panel equipment to be housed.

The unit can either be used as a closed loop device to cool a single cabinet fitted with solid front and rear doors or, by fitting the host cabinet with ventilated doors, it can function as an in-row cooler within a suite of server cabinets.

The LHX40, although deeper, has the same height and depth dimensions as the 20kW LHX20 unit, thereby providing a simple retro-fit solution for users who need to have increased cooling capacity in existing 1,200mm deep cabinets.

The internal closed loop airflow is powered by seven hot swap fans that distribute the cool air uniformly throughout the height of the cabinet, eliminating thermal gradients. The output air temperature from the unit can be set between 18°C and 30°C. Once set, the temperature is automatically maintained as the thermal load varies, minimising energy costs. Internal condensation is prevented by an integral droplet separator in the unit, which ensures that the relative humidity of the internal air remains below the dew point.

RS232, RS485 and Ethernet ports are provided, enabling remote control over a network, system monitoring with AdvancedTCA shelf management and remote alarm outputs and warning signals. Local status displays are also provided.
